Georgia Moderates Activation Solutions (GMAS) is led by David Henson. Henson graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Communications. While attending UGA, Henson served for two years as President of the Young Democrats of UGA / Athens and founded indie music label Democrat Records. In 1995, he organized the ‘AssFest’ fundraiser for the Young Democrats, featuring Democrat Records artists and hosted by the legendary 40 Watt Club in Athens. Following college, Henson spent 20 years in corporate marketing, including 10 years in real estate marketing, five years in financial marketing (including event / convention planning) and five years in digital marketing at Atlanta-based The Home Depot. While at The Home Depot, Henson helped modernize homedepot.com, where he served as Home Page Manager and Editor. Our history dates back to 2005, with David Henson’s fight against the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in Cobb County. At the time, GDOT was planning to widen Interstate 75 by eight lanes total, including two express toll “Lexus” lanes and two tractor-trailer truck only lanes in each direction. The impacts to the lower income neighborhoods bordering the interstate - including Henson’s own childhood neighborhood where his father still lived - would have been devastating. Henson went door-to-door to organize residents, who then packed the next GDOT public information meeting. This resulted in GDOT hosting an additional meeting for residents of the affected neighborhoods, and within a few months, the four truck only lanes were dropped from the widening project. Ultimately, the remaining four express toll lanes were reduced to two and built mostly within GDOT’s existing right-of-way. Motivated by this success, Henson soon founded Georgia Policy Solutions. We may or may not be Georgia natives, but the opportunities here brought us together.  We may live in a Southern state, but do not identify as Southerner.  We don't have a Southern accent, but still prefer our tea sweet. We’re proud to be modern day Georgians, but despise our state’s past. We support progressive ideas, but don’t want to be talked down to by the progressives we support.
